## Frequently asked questions

### How do I know if I need therapy?

Going to therapy does not mean you are "crazy" or that you are unable to figure things out on your own. Therapy is beneficial for anybody who is willing to work on themselves, has a goal they would like to achieve, and is motivated to pursue change and growth.

### How do I find the right therapist?

You should feel safe sharing your innermost thoughts and feelings with your therapist. I would suggest reading through a therapist's website or profile, considering practical details like in-person or virtual therapy, insurance or out-of-pocket fees, and using free phone consultations to get initial questions answered.

### Do I need to find a therapist with the same life experiences as me?

While there are certain benefits to having a therapist who has experienced similar life situations to you, it is not necessary. Through empathy and curiosity, I can connect with you because we all experience the same core human emotions. Sometimes exploring our differences can also lead to rich insights in therapy!

### Do you work with Asian American clients or cultural expectations?

Yes. Many of the high-achieving adults and couples I work with are navigating Asian American or immigrant family expectations alongside perfectionism, duty, and identity questions. As a second-generation Asian American psychologist, I bring that cultural fluency into the room while keeping the focus on the deeper patterns underneath.

### Where is your therapy office and which areas do you serve?

My office is at 5242 Katella, Suite 202, Los Alamitos, CA 90720. Clients often come from Seal Beach, Cypress, Long Beach, Cerritos, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, and other Orange County communities. I also offer virtual therapy for California residents.

### Do you help with perfectionism, people-pleasing, or burnout?

Yes. Much of my individual therapy work is with high-achieving adults who look successful on the outside and feel exhausted, anxious, or disconnected inside. We explore perfectionism, people-pleasing, burnout, and the family or cultural patterns underneath — not just coping tips.

### How long will treatment take?

Each session is 50 minutes long. I recommend that clients come to sessions weekly in order to receive the fullest benefits of psychodynamic therapy. Some clients meet twice a week depending on their needs and goals. Clients who see the most success are committed to meeting for at least 3 months.

### What are your fees and do you take insurance?

Individual therapy is $215 per 50-minute session. Couples session rates are shared during the free consultation. I am an out-of-network provider and provide monthly superbills for PPO reimbursement. A free 15-minute phone consultation is available.

### Is what I share confidential?

Yes. I maintain strict confidentiality about everything we discuss in sessions. The only exceptions are if there is an immediate threat of harm to yourself or someone else, current child or elder abuse, or if required by court order.

### Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes. I offer sessions in person at my Los Alamitos office or online via Zoom. Due to licensing requirements, I can only see clients who reside in California.

### What should I expect in my first session?

During our first session, my goal is to understand why you're seeking therapy and what you hope to achieve. We'll discuss what's bothering you and how you'd like me to help, then evaluate whether we're a good fit.

### Are you a licensed psychologist in California?

Yes. I am a licensed clinical psychologist practicing in California, with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Biola University. I see clients in person in Los Alamitos and virtually throughout California.
