Build a marriage you
don't have to fix later.
Premarital counseling in Los Alamitos & online across California
You're good at planning the wedding. I help you plan the marriage — using the Prepare-Enrich assessment and real conversations about family, money, conflict, and the patterns you're already starting to notice in each other.
Love is not the part that needs practice. Conflict is.
Premarital counseling is not a warning sign. It is one of the highest-leverage investments you can make in your relationship — before habits harden.
Patterns are already forming
How you fight, withdraw, apologize, and repair is being rehearsed right now. Premarital work names those patterns while they are still easy to reshape.
Weddings surface the family stuff
Planning a wedding brings families, expectations, and money into sharp relief. This is the perfect moment to talk about loyalty, in-laws, and the life you two actually want.
You learn how you're different
The Prepare-Enrich assessment maps your strengths and growth areas as a couple — so we work on what is actually true for you, not generic advice.
What premarital counseling with me looks like
A short, structured program — typically four to six sessions — grounded in the Prepare-Enrich assessment and my depth-oriented approach.
Both of you take Prepare-Enrich
Each partner completes the Prepare-Enrich assessment online (~30 minutes). It measures your strengths and growth areas across communication, conflict, financial management, family dynamics, and more.
We go through your results together
In two to three sessions we review your couple report — what is strong, what needs attention, and what the patterns beneath your answers look like in real life.
You leave with tools, not just insight
We practice the conversations couples tend to avoid: money, sex, in-laws, children, faith, and the family templates you are each bringing into this marriage. You'll leave with a shared language for them.
Especially if you are a high-achieving or bicultural couple
If you are used to being good at things — including each other — premarital work can feel vulnerable. There is no test to pass here. My job is to help you see the places where your backgrounds, cultures, or conflict styles quietly differ, and to make those differences discussable.
For Asian American and immigrant couples, we also make space for the expectations your families carry about marriage — and for choosing, consciously and together, which of those you want to carry forward.
Questions couples often ask
When should we start premarital counseling?
I recommend starting three to six months before the wedding, so there is time to practice what we discuss without a deadline looming. That said, it is never too early — and many couples also use Prepare-Enrich after marrying or during a major transition.
Does Prepare-Enrich require us to share everything with each other?
No. You each complete the assessment privately online. Only the couple report — which you see together with me — comes into the sessions. It is designed to open conversation, not to create secrets.
We've been together for years. Is this still useful?
Very. Long-term couples often have the most entrenched patterns and the most to gain from a structured look at money, family, and conflict. Prepare-Enrich is designed for engaged couples, newlyweds, and married couples at any stage.
Is premarital counseling covered by insurance?
Premarital counseling is generally not covered by insurance. I am an out-of-network provider and provide superbills you can submit for any out-of-network benefits. Program fees are shared during your free 15-minute consultation.
